Van
Waking up next to Lexi was the best thing Iâd done all year. Maybe ever. Iâd woken up next to women before but always with the main focus being getting out of there or getting them out of there. With Lexi, I was dreading having to leave her room yet knew I had to.
Most of all, I wanted to wake her before I left but decided against it. Weâd been up late and she looked so comfortable snuggled down into the mattress. Most disappointedly, sheâd put pajamas on before weâd fallen asleep last night.
I sat on the bed watching her for as long as I dared before leaning over and pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. Then I slipped from her room as quietly as I could. Just because I needed to go take care of some things didnât mean she should get up.
âWhat the fuck?â that annoying voice said from behind me right after the door finally closed.
Of course Lawson would see me leaving his sisterâs room. Of course he would.
Iâd known I was going to have to deal with him at some point. May as well be now. I didnât give two shits if he knew about Lexi and me but she seemed to which meant I had to respect that. But it wasnât my fault he was lurking around her room this fucking early in the morning.
âMorning, Lawson,â I said after I turned toward him. He was in his standard dress pants and shirt. I never understood why he dressed that way, given that not a single fucking person wouldâve cared what he was wearing. Most people on tour wore jeans and T-shirts but now Lawson and now that I thought about it, not Mack. I guess itâs a manager thing.
âAgain,â he said. âWhat the fuck?â
I folded my arms over my chest and took a deep breath. This was going to require some patience. âWhat are you doing out here?â
âDaisyâs and my room is just two doors down.â
Well, that was awkward.
âNow,â he continued, âand please donât make me say it again. What the fuck?â
I scratched the back of my head and fought off a grin. âYouâll have to be more specific.â
âI just saw you coming out of Lexiâs room. What were you doing with my sister?â
Now I winced. âI donât think you want those details. I know I sure as fuck donât want to give them.â
Lawsonâs jaw tightened and he took one step forward before stopping himself. âJesus Christ, Van. Youâre taking this thing with me too far.â
âWhat the fuck are you talking about?â
âYouâre messing with my sister to get back at me. I get it. You donât want me with Daisy. I hear from Mack all the fucking time that Iâm too old for her. But thisâ¦this is taking it too far. You donât get it, man. You donât know what sheâs going through right now and itâs not OK.â
I furrowed my brows. I didnât know what Lexi was going through because she hadnât told me and had made it crystal clear that she didnât want to.
